Doctor of Physical Therapy
Joseph Carneglia, DPT, is an invaluable member of the Curnyn Physical Therapy team. With a deep passion for understanding human movement and helping others recover from injuries, Joseph brings a unique blend of expertise, personal experience, and dedication to his patients. Whether it's assisting athletes in return-to-sport rehabilitation or providing relief to individuals struggling with chronic pain, Joseph is committed to empowering his patients to achieve their goals and live healthier, pain-free lives.
-
Joseph earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree and has since pursued advanced training in joint mobilization and high-velocity low-amplitude (HVLA) manipulation. His professional focus includes manual therapy, with a specialization in treating tendinopathy, tendon training, and managing low back pain, with or without sciatica.
During his graduate studies, Joseph conducted research with the Cardiovascular and Aging Research Lab at The University of Texas at Austin, exploring innovative approaches such as blood flow-restriction training and the effects of exercise on gastrointestinal cancer. This experience reinforces his evidence-based approach to patient care.
With extensive experience in sports rehabilitation, Joseph has helped athletes across disciplines – including soccer, running, golf, swimming, football, and baseball – recover from injuries and return to peak performance. His background as a competitive soccer player provides him with a unique understanding of athletes’ needs and challenges, enabling him to create individualized, sport-specific treatment plans.
-
Joseph’s approach to physical therapy is rooted in empathy and a patient-centered focus. Having spent much of his own athletic career as a physical therapy patient due to injuries, he understands firsthand the frustrations and challenges of the recovery process. He strives to connect with his patients on a personal level, tailoring treatments to meet their unique needs and ensuring they feel supported every step of the way.
He is particularly passionate about educating patients on injury prevention and recovery, equipping them with the tools and knowledge needed to stay active and healthy long after completing their therapy sessions. His treatments often incorporate education on tendon and joint health, strengthening techniques, and strategies to restore functional movement patterns.
-
Outside the clinic, Joseph stays active through working out and playing golf. He also loves spending time with his girlfriend, Bridget, exploring the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and seeking new travel adventures. When he’s not practicing his golf swing, you might find Joseph indulging in video games or enjoying quality time with his family. While his days of competitive soccer are behind him, he often reflects on the lessons learned during that chapter of his life and brings the same dedication and perseverance to his work as a physical therapist.
